Well, I sometimes wonder if men and women are really meant to cohabitate or even date.
Men think we're weird when we just want to ask a question.
Women think men are mean when they get annoyed at them.

Men like violence...they like women to be quiet...they don't want us to voice our opinions...women like to try and make men happy.

Let's see...how many more can I continue with before we start doubting every relationship we know?!

Oh well, any ideas on how to cohabitate? I want to stay hopeful for a good relationship with a man that I chose to date...

Republicans in Congress are pushing a bill that would allow hospitals to let a pregnant woman die rather than perform a life-saving abortion. It's reprehensible - and that's only one piece of an overall Republican war on women's health.

Another bill would effectively prevent women from using their own money to purchase insurance that includes abortion coverage in the new insurance exchanges, among other things. Rep. Carolyn Maloney called it "the deepest attack on a woman's right to choose in my lifetime.

We have got to stop the GOP war on women's health and the right to choose. I signed a petition urging Congress to oppose these attacks. Can you join me at the link below?

My parents are great for letting me live here...

I stopped dead in my tracks and sucked in my breath.....I don't know what I thought was worse, knowing I had to pass by it or knowing I already had (I noticed it on my way back through). This is what I get for snooping around corners.
Then, knowing that the inevitable had to happen - I crossed by that monstrosity - and to make it worse..... with my BACKPACK behind me.

Does anyone feel my pain - or rather, HIGH FIVE FOR KELLY FOR NOT NEEDING A PAPER BAG to breathe in afterwards.....

I come from a medical household: let me tell you how being sick in a place like this pans out.
1. me: "I am sick Mom."
2. Mom: " You should gargle....here, I have the tap running warm for you."
3. me: "grhllllghrllll.....spit."
4. me: "Dad, I feel like CRAP"
5. Dad: "You should gargle."
6. me: ("yeah, good idea", I'm thinking.....)
7.later in the evening me: "I think I should get some early sleep to get over this thing."
8. Mom: "I will get the throat wrap ready."
-now, you have to understand that my parents are very holistic in their medicinal approach -
*the throat wrap is: A. wrapping Raleigh's (or an old-fashioned version of Vick's) all over your WHOLE upper area...and I mean WHOLE area B. a hankerchief (does anyone really say that word properly? anyways...) from Dad's drawer - you run it under hot water to get it warm and WET....wrapped on top of the non-Vicks, an old wool sock safety-pinned on top of that and then putting you to bed to die from a safety-pin prick that drains all the blood from your body whilst sleeping!
9. I awake....feel sicker - like I'd been swimming all night long and am water-logged. Oh wait...I really am wet all OVER....from the Throat Wrap (proven to work in medical circles claims my Mother - yeah, ones from the CO-OP I'm thinking!!)
10. Take more echinacia and whatever else herbal medicine I found on the sale rack at the Health Food Store!
11. Days go by.......; ok, maybe one or three.
12. Dad wakes me up...me:" I feel sicker....."
13. Dad: "maybe you should call the Doctor's."
14. ........me: "huh?"

Camp Nowhere somewhere in Vermont

This is a youth camp started by Amy and Michael Hawkins and Laura and Warren Hill, III for any teen (non-Adventist as well) who would like to come and have fun with other Christian kids

And two were pregnant!!
1st row: Jason Upson, Warren Hill III, Judy Cutler, Esq.(hehe), me, Aaron Beaudin (my First boyfriend) Liam Batcheldor
second row: Michael Hawkins, Amy Hawkins, Laura Hill, Faith Beaudin and Adrianna Crooker We were very thankful this weekend for living in a place where even though the neighbors had guns theu were just for hunting and had no intent of killing you and a place where you can start a 30 ft. high bonfire without setting ablaze a whole state. Also, where we can worship the Lord in actual nature - even surrounded by the bugs.....for any teenager who wants to come.

I realized I have nothing about my real "person" on here - and not assuming any of you care but I feel my established friends may find this a little humurous, so here goes: a little about Kelly Knowlton's day:
1. wore totally the wrong underwear - picked a wedge all day!
2. decided not to wash my hair and people at work thought I had put hair extensions in because when it is down (vs. up in a wet ponytail all day) it appears longer. What? I ask..this is Vermont, where would I get hair extensions - from the llamas next door?!
3. stopped by "Milano's" house - an old scary drugged out man from "Milano (Milan for Americans)" and looked for antiqued blue canning jars - he has a yard sale outside of his house day and night - even in the winter.
4.went into the hippie store to buy a "More trees less Bush" bumper sticker and found my Pastor - chatted with him for awhile - he was drinking homemade carrot juice that is on the menu.
5.came home and told Grandpa he needs to wear ear protection when mowing our lawn and gave him a water bottle and then asked if he was hungry by rubbing my hands on my belly and giving him a questioningly look. ( i said belly...haha)
6.flitted around the yard - legs kicking up and all - like a ballerina when no one was looking!
7.avoided my crazy neighbor by ducking behind a corner of the house as he drove by.
8.Stomped on the heads of the scallions to make the oninion itself bigger - then ate the scalion - dirt and all....just couldn't be bothered to wash it!
9.scraped Special-K loaf off a plate with my finger nail and ate it (off my finger nail).

Chelsea on the News!!! WCAX

Three of my friends and my sister were on the news - it was on at my house for some odd reason (we usually just get our news from NPR) but Mom had said Chelsea wanted to tape something - huh, I thought....whatever. And continued on my merry way until I heard the name Warren Hill, (Jr.) of Warren Hill Trucking is talking about all the rain and how it is making harvesting lumber very hard because of the wet conditions......and I saw Jen Hill's Dad and brother, Warren Hill III! I thought that was cool - THEN.....
And next on the news we have the new Vermont caffeinated drink - only one proven to lose weight! And low and behold: SAMANTHA GLOOR and CHELSEA!! hahahaha. We are so sneaky - us Knowlton girls - totally a trick I would have pulled!

So I find it hilarious that Chelsea and I went to our neighboring country (up north, that is) for its National Holiday. We even got to visit the Putt/Daviss/Johnson clan in the capital, no less.
We then raced (wow, didn't even mean the pun - I ROCK) to get home in time for our totally "blue-blooded" American pastime here in Vermont: THUNDER ROAD!! No one we knew won, though....David Wall used to race, though! Some people may be shocked but I love it!!!! The extremes in culture were dizzying.

4.Betty-Anne and me - I got to help her with a birth in the lady's bed in her OWN home, this winter, that is......

My own Prairie Home Companion with Dr. Matiko and Judes...

Ok, my Favorite reason for being an Adventist:
Becuase if I kept Sunday as Sabbath, I never would have been able to listen to Prairie Home Companion every Saturday night from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. - in the summer it was ok - because we went up to camp for two months and worked my tail off so no conflict (besides, no radio at camp)with Sabbath hours.
I grew up with Garrison Keillor on P. H. C. and also his wonderful 8:35 morning program on NPR(NPR Rules!): The Writers' Almanac - which with all the "readers" in my life - I can't believe I am the only one who knows what that IS!

Last night I went to see Prairie Home Companion with Dr. Matiko, who is visiting from where the land is flat, and Judy Cutler!
Perhaps knowing I grew up with sort of radio show, my friends will understand me now a little more!

After listening throughout my life to G. K.,
I was slightly in shock when I saw him for the first time in full body view EVER in just his boxers and red socks and a button up white dress-shirt!!
I was always in love with Guy Noir - "private eye". Perfect blend of Inspector Clouseau and Humphrey Bogart...in the Maltese Falcon, that is.

As I send another friend off to Kuwait and Caleb sends his best friend to Iraq, I am overcome with anxiety fpr them when I hear that Erica (my friend who is a widow due to this "war" - see Nov. post) is sent home another body part of her husband - that's right, and she has to give it a burial and all.
The concerns we have are so frivolous; it's ok if we are single, it is fine that we are unemployed; we need to get things right with God - we NEED to be thankful for the people in our lives who love us, no matter what "title" they hold in our lives.
Were any of the young boys and girls thinking of their problems when they were being carried off the field by a medical unit? They were thinking of their loved ones and their journeys - either to Heaven or Hell.
You don't have to be a Republican either, to be in the fight. Dad did his part in the Marines back in the 70's, Amber (Shobe) Dean's husband served for 6 years and he is a Libertarian. Vermont has the highest death rate per capita in this war and we have been a blue state for the last few elections - so they couldn't have all been R's, right?!
Have people forgotten we are in a war? The war is personal for so many people and it is personal for me. Everyday my heart jumps when I hear of another death and I feel sorrow when they talk of the other side and how many of them have died - because on their side there is someone like me - wondering WHY we are doing this - why are boys and girls not returning home?!
After Memorial Day it also reminds me of how many veterans are in my own life - they are all around me, with stories too horrible to tell and memories that make them feel unhuman. Please don't take this to be me supporting the "conflict" but a reminder to give support to these families - people are living in Hell everyday around us. And if you want this to stop - then stop driving your fucking SUV's and get a clue as to how your lifestyle is supporting this war. Making a war personal brings about the changes necessary to stop it - without them, you will be living in your own suburbia bliss without any idea of the SACRIFICES made to give that to you.

My computer sense

So, Thistle Hill has recently gotten DSL - whatever that means. And yes - I will now be able ot finally enjoy the world of talking on the phone and cruisin' the internet simultaneously - yes, Vermont is still in the Dark Ages - AND that's how we like it....but enough talking about heaven.
The point is: that yesterday I played around on my sister's computer to "configure" it and I was actually able to get it working - it is not as easy as you may think - something just wasn't working. And I was able to use my "electronical" skills yet again - and a few of you know how really excellent I am with those - and only one of you read this blog and agrees that electronical IS the perfect word in those situations.............(the ones where you are blown away that what you are doing actually works; but maybe it is due to my first major-computer science.......I know everyone who knew me in college is dying since we all know the luck Iused to have with those things......even I am cracking a grin!)

So Caleb and I were out one evening - getting a ton of food - which I ate most of....and we walk in and sit down . Across from us was this girl who I noticed had a BIG box of pizza (on one of those restaurant pedestal things - you know what I'm talking about, right?). I sat down...noticed no one was coming back to share it with her so I look over to see what she was doing.
She was sitting there eating a big bowl of Ben n Jerry's (that is the only kind they served, for those of you asking "how do I know that...), her big pizza to take home and drinking a BEER
Caleb looks at me and says: "How can I meet people like that"?
what he meant more specifically: "girls like that....besides Kelly and Jess"

I've got one thing to say! Jess is way better than I am.
I was recently telling my friend Judy how Jessica told everyone in Florida that she did not want me to meet the parents of one of our "new" friends. "Why", "How come", "What for"? they all ask. Jess looks at them with as if she is saying: "HELLO.......Have you never MET Knowlton - SHE IS A PARENT PLEASER"!!! She tricks everyone into believing she is perfect". So of course no one believed her and I was joking about this to Judy Cutler.
Judy - however - knows me exceptionally well.
"Oh yeah; YOU could be a snake oil SALESMAN!!" So there you have it - Jess is a real person - what you see is how she really is with you - that is very honorable.
I, on the other hand, well - I will just say you have NO clue what is happening behing my facade. Lester was even cracking up when Jess was talking about me in Florida. Yet, he did not want to say it outloud - in case I came back to get him....
And I would never have divulged this - except my friend Jess has really gotten some undue crap for her behaviour lately - and of course......I haven't!!

Just another thing to "gross you out": the place I was working yesterday - the kids had such clogged runny noses - you know, the thick green kind that doesn't leave even if you clear it out of their nostrils YOURSELF - that I will be surprised if I don't enter the hospital and die from the BIRDFLU......or something.......at least give me some green tea.

Ok so many of you that read this blog, Kellyknowlton.blogspot.com, I should get a free t-shirt or something for that plug...Are buried in snow or will be soon! Yikes I know what's new, its December and its suppose to be snowing, right? Well I'm fortunate to say that no! I played Tennis lastnight and though I could see my breath I still was able to wear shorts and enjoy a long 7-6 defeat to Justin *sidebar I fell apart more than him beating me end sidebar* anyways I know you're going to hate me for saying this but I really miss the snow. I miss the cold wind hitting my face as I get out a warm house. I miss the uncontrollable shaking that takes place as I try to heat my car and clean the snow off the windows; I might be crazy but somehow 16 years of freezing cold weather is ingrained into your DNA. I mean I don't necessarily want snow down here as much as I want to be up there. I hope ya'll have a safe week and a warmer weekend.

Lets remember those that survived Pearl Harbor today..

Today is World AIDS day.
Cuba is the country with the lowest HIV infection rate...."why is that" you wonder?

"Cuba stopped quarantining in 1993 and allows people with HIV to stay at home after a course to teach them how to look after themselves and not spread the virus.
Universal free access to locally made generic antiretroviral drugs has kept AIDS cases and deaths very low, said the UNAIDS program.
Almost 20 years later, Cuba has one of the lowest rates of HIV infection in the world, a prevalence of less than 0.1 percent of its sexually active population.
That’s six times less than the United States and a big exception in the Caribbean, the second most-affected region in the world after sub-Saharan Africa, according to UNAIDS.

Ok, so I was telling Trisha how Jess's roommates - Holly and Steph - have never seen a black-n-white movie and how I thought that was just CRAZY!!!!! Where did these girls grow up?! I am at a coffee shop with Charlie and Judy and cute guy actually looked at my bag and said it was bottomless.....then proceded to tell me all the things he couldn't believe I had taken out.
Now - I am new to this non-Adventist "dating stuff" and I am impressed that he talked to me with Charlie around. I mean - who knows, we could have been married.
I can't believe people actually stare at me because I am always analyzing people.

A Military Funeral
I recently attended a military funeral for my friend's husband: 2LT Mark Procopio. She was serving in Kuwait and he was in Iraq. By an odd twist of fate - his best friend was killed 6 weeks before and he had dated her sister. By another odd "twist of fate", a pastor returning from Rwanda prayed before he boarded a plane to the United States that someone who needed witnessing to would sit next to him on the plane - as you can imagine my friend Erica did. They began to talk towards the END of the trip and she told him she was flying home to bury her husband and how he had died in Iraq - he said: "well, I am a Christian Pastor." and she said: "what denomination?" and he said:"SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST." Erica burst out in tears - her family had not attended an Adventist church for a few years.....she asked him to do the funeral.
The U.S. Army flew him from Colorado - where his church is - and he performed the ceremony. He not only had a sermon in front of her family and friends - but in front of the remaining Green Mountain Boys National Guard (that really is their name) who had not been sent over to varying places, in front of Sen. Pat Leahy -leader of Senate Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bernie Sanders, Gov. Jim Douglass and many other "high - brass" military officials. GOD DOES WORK IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS!!
When I saw my friend- dressed like Jackie Kennedy in all black, a hat and a string of pearls - being escorted down the chapel by her brother (in full uniform as well) and her sister Amelia, I lost it and cried for the next 4 hours- yes, Military funerals are long......
My other point for writing this is to state my belief that it is our DUTY to show respect and honor to those fighting this war. There have been many protestors at military funerals in Vermont (being so Liberal as we are); they need to know that their freedom to Protest is what this man died for.
Without trying to get all "quotation-like" I want to say that it was an honor to see how many fine men and women are defending our country - taking the stand to give "their todays for our tomorrows". You may not agree with this war - but you DO NEED to honor the soldier who gives you your PRIVELAGE to NOT support it!!

So I have a new theory: the more "riotous", crazy, rambunctious, punky that you were in college the bigger the odds that you were brought up in the outdoors. The most crazy friends I had in college were the ones who could not get ENOUGH of the outdoors. These were the ones who were always giving the impression that they were getting into trouble, though; just a thought......but they just make interesting people.

So there we were just trying to mind our own business when this over eager get to know everyone around you kind of person started to..Well get to know us. Ok not really as much as she was just interrupting our conversation I do that sometimes but I at least know the people. I guess I should explain that we were in a hot tub and people seem to get all friendly when you're in the hot tub, not me, but people. I tried not to make too much eye contact or even say too much in fear of inviting one of her unwanted comments. I think the kicker for me was when she was explaining the joys of not majoring in any kind of field but taking every class possible, like a bachelors in Liberal arts to which she said "Nah, nah, its way better to have no major, so I won't be just a psych major, business major, I'll be well rounded and by the end of 3 more years I'll have a enough credits to have a masters?????? WHat! I should of just got up and left but I couldn't, I didn't have the heart to break the news to her but I should of. Though you'll never read this blog lady in the hot tub at Park Vineridge, you can't get a master's by just accumulating credits, heck you can't even just graduate doing that. Ok that's all..to top that off, I got two tickets today!! SUcks!

So I've concluded that when you look your worst - boys find you the most attractive.
Jess says this is all about having confidence when you aren't trying to impress someone. I was at yoga the other night - looking my worst in skin tight stretchy pants and leaning over so as my butt was HUMONGOUS - not giving a care in the world who was in the room (hence Jessica's theory) and afterwards this guy comes up and says: "So, first time doing Svaroopa Yoga?" (actually, scrap my whole theory, maybe he was cracking up at me doing so badly that he HAD to talk to me). But anyways....this yoga is a little different than the normal -run of the mill- class, it is more relaxing...
so I say:" yes.....blah blah blah blah" for the next five minutes. Point being - when I am not thinking about it, they come along.....so maybe we should all act and dress how we really want and someone interesting will float in.
I mean, how bad can a guy be who attends Yoga class all my himself....I should at least hear what he has to say!

I would like to thank God for one of his wonderful gifts to us - old people.
These people are beautiful, loving and plain "old" weird. Rarely does a day go by when I do not gain a blessing from them and am reminded of how these souls were once just like me - with money worries, job worries, romance worries yet they are still alive - maybe there is hope for my life. Maybe I won't die of starvation from my small income, drive off the bridge because of student loans or swear off men forever.
Maybe I need to just give it time and while doing so, learn from the old people -
our proof that God does have a sense of humor.
Because if you spend any amount of time with one - you are bound to see their every move as hilarious; their rituals mirrors of yours -
and you may just catch a tear swelling in your eye........

It almost doesn't seem right that i post the first entry in the anugural blog for KK but be as it may I just found myself compelled to write about how we could be wiped out of this earth by birds!! Birds man, i say, birds!!!! Yes this H5N1 virus or bird influenza. could wipe out 1/3 of the human population. Jess made a proclamation of a free polutry lifestyle, this all done yesterday at Carrabbas, no members of the press were present to ask her of her sudden change of lifestyle, however I, Les, was there to give her a skeptical look and ask why? Which brings up back to the H5N1 virus. I was interested if that would actually do anything, you know if one where to stop eating chicken, would you reduce the chance of contracting H5N1? This is portion of the blog where a nice Video monalogue could be put into good use, I couldn't find one sorry:(.
I suppose we're not in dangered by the actually birds but by the farmer/handlers.. So Jess what you should give up on is not necessarily poultry but people? Ok nevermind that. Can you imagine doing(the giant picture you first noticed when you first came to the blog, he's being disinfected) this everytime you go visit somebody?
